Epic Doesn’t Have A Content Library, But You Should.

For all the controversy around data fees, Epic is still the golden child of the EHR era.

I personally watched the company grow for years…both as a potential employee (I was called for an interview, but ultimately decided I didn’t want to make the move to the Midwest) and as a competitor. I was excited when I finally got to experience their system up-close, and I was impressed.

So when I recently went to take a look at their content presence, I expected a cavernous library that looked like a niche version of IBM’s. My heart sank a bit as I rummaged through the site…I was surprised to find little more public-facing information than an (admittedly) very attractive news page. Of course they have the obligatory product descriptions and website staples, but as far as deep, mind-blowing, thought-leadership crushing content? They fall short…but you know what?

Epic can do that.

Everyone knows who they are. They don’t need to tell their story with news-worthy case studies or prove their knowledge with a tower of white papers…everyone already knows they know what they’re doing. Chances are though, that doesn’t apply to you.

What A Content Library Really Is

The concept of thought leadership can seem trite, pointless, or unattainable, but it’s essential to any organization that doesn’t yet have an Epic-sized reputation to ride on.

People don’t know what you do. They don’t know that your ICD-10 transition solution is better suited to their small-practice needs than the company they spoke to last week. They don’t know that you’re the perfect choice for designing their new employee wellness app because you’ve done it successfully 20 times already while most of your competitors haven’t even pulled it off well once.

You need to tell them this and content libraries that highlight your specializations are one of the best, if not the best way to do it. They start that long conversation with a potential client that you hope eventually turns to a sale, and that conversation is no longer optional.
